Tour Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Your journey begins with a scenic boat cruise across Lake Wakatipu, with your tour guide and all bikes on board. We start riding along the lake edge then head into golden tussock-covered mountain landscape. The area has a truly wild and remote feel, with limited vehicle access. The day ends with a visit to the stunning Mavora Lakes before we shuttle you to Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park.
  • Day 2 – The lakes are at their most tranquil in the morning, when you ride a beautiful cycle trail between the 2 giant lakes of Te Anau and Manapouri. After lunch we rejoin the Around the Mountains cycle trail in the afternoon and ride to our accommodation in Mossburn.
  • Day 3 – The trail visits Lumsden before turning north along the eastern edge of the Eyre Mountains. We spend the night in the village of Kingston, wedged between the mountains and the lake.
  • Day 4 – Today is a day of change and contrast. In the morning we cycle through an ancient glacial moraine to finish the Around the Mountains cycle trail. Then we transport you to the mighty Clutha, NZ’s biggest river by volume and ride a beautiful section of trail around a lake. We spend the night at a lovely country lodge with a fantastic restaurant.
  • Day 5 – Today we ride the Clutha Gold – a smooth bike trail following the aqua blue river. After the day’s cycling we may have time for a scenic walk overlooking the surrounding valley before dinner.
  • Day 6 – Starting high above the river, the cycle trail zig-zags into the Roxburgh gorge, eventually coming to asmall jetty, far from civilisation. The only way through the central canyon is by jet boat! Back in the saddle, you follow the river to finish at one of New Zealand’s most impressive feats of engineering. After a final celebratory lunch we drop you back to Queenstown in the late afternoon.
